The goal of communication is to convey an information and to understanding that information from one person or more than that. In other words, communication is a process of exchanging verbal and nonverbal messages. Nonverbal massages describes the process of conveying meaning in the form of non-word messages. Example of nonverbal action such as smile, nod or tap your feet. One nonverbal symbol is kinesics which is the use of body motions to communicate. Examples of kinesics is frowning, staring, laughing, gesturing or any similar body movement.
Proxemics is also another nonverbal symbol. While, oral communication is referring to spoken verbal communication or using words. Oral communication includes speeches, presentations, discussions, and aspects of interpersonal communication.
This type of communication also garners immediate feedback. This type of communication is communicate face to face which is make receiver more easier to understood. Developing a message is known as encoding. Interpreting the message is referred to as decoding. The other important feature is the feedback. When a person receives a message, she responds to it by giving a reply that is called feedback. Otherwise, the sender cannot know whether the message understood by the receiver or misunderstanding happen. The sender also want to know whether the sender properly interpreted the massage or how their give the response to it. The hardest part to achieve of effective communication is common understanding. This is because sometimes the receiver difficult to understand what the sender massage.
Effective communication occurs when the intended message of the sender and the interpreted message of the receiver are one and the same. It serves the purpose for which it was planned or designed. The causes when the desired is not achieved such as barriers to communication are explored, with the intention being to discover how the communication has been ineffective.
Barriers to effective communication can causes misunderstanding or distort the message and intention of the message being conveyed which is in failure of the communication process or an effect that is undesirable. These include filtering, selective perception, information overload, emotions, language, silence, communication apprehension, gender differences and political correctness. This also includes a lack of expressing “knowledge-appropriate” communication, which occurs when a person uses complex legal words, medical jargon, or descriptions of a situation or environment that is not understood by the recipient.
